Visiting Fukui to explore Traditional Craft-Work and the world of Zen

“Eiheiji Temple,” the Sacred Ground of “Zen.”

It is said that Mr. Steve Jobs (the co-founder of Apple) once visited Eiheiji Temple and was so strongly influenced by the place he tried to become a Buddhist Priest himself, and it took lots of persuasion by the temple staff to stop him. This powerful Zen temple resides in Fukui Prefecture.

The spirit of Zen has been passed down through the centuries, and the people in Fukui still live together with the spirit of Zen in their ordinary daily life.

This Virtual Tour will focus on the traditional craftmanship in Fukui and will show you six different manufacturing studios, including where they forge Japanese Katana’s, that are all deeply intertwined with Zen culture.

You will see not only the craftmanship of artisans and the secret of their craftwork which has survived generations, but also the actually work that goes into their craft behind the closed doors of their studios.

You will also be introduced with vegetarian dishes served in Eiheiji Temple together with some popular cafes in Fukui to learn how to enjoy Fukui Prefecture!

While it is still difficult for the people to go out on a trip under the current COVID-19 situation, please explore and enjoy Fukui on a virtual trip.
